The definitive Scottish castle in the definitive Scottish atmosphere: that is Eilean Donan Castle in the morning.
Located on the Isle of Skye, the renowned, ancient castle has appeared in many modern films, long outlasting its now-obscure inhabitants. We took a shot of the castle one evening, when both the tide and the sun were out. Somehow, it seemed “too nice.”
So we came back in the morning. The tide was in and the sun was hiding. Mist clung to the hills, tinging both the vegetation and the atmosphere. Water covered the rock and earth surrounding the castle, conjuring up a glassy reflection. Seeing now with our eyes what we had seen in our mind’s eye, it seemed that time had been turned back centuries in the span of just a few hours.
